Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about setting up and running your wedding trivia experience.
Do guests need to download an app?
No! My Wedding Trivia is entirely browser-based. Guests simply scan your QR code on their tables or type your short custom link into their phone browser (Safari, Chrome). There are no passwords, downloads, or accounts required — they enter their nickname and are instantly in the game.
How does the live leaderboard work?
You simply connect any laptop or tablet to your venue's TV, projector, or big screen via HDMI or casting. You then open your exclusive "Presenter View" link. As guests answer questions on their phones in real-time, the leaderboard updates live on the big screen for everyone to see.
Is there a limit to how many guests can play?
No! Unlike tools like Kahoot that tightly cap player counts, My Wedding Trivia allows unlimited players on all premium plans. Whether you have an intimate 20-person rehearsal dinner or a 300-person grand reception, everyone can play at the same time.
Do I need an MC or DJ to run the game?
It's completely up to you! For a reception game, your DJ or Best Man can act as the host using the "Host Control Room" on their phone to manually push questions and hype the crowd. However, many couples use our Autopilot Mode during cocktail hour — the system automatically counts down and advances questions while you sneak off for photos.
Can I test the game before buying?
Absolutely. You can sign up completely free, build your entire game, test custom colors, upload your photos, and play a test round with up to 5 players. You only need to upgrade to a paid plan when you're ready to unlock your entire guest list for the big day.
How many questions should we include?
For a seated reception game played all at once, 10–15 questions is the perfect sweet spot (taking about 10–15 minutes). If you are running the game on autopilot throughout a 60-minute cocktail hour, 15–25 questions works beautifully to space things out.
Can we customize the colors and branding?
Yes! Your game shouldn't look like a corporate seminar. You can upload an engagement photo for your welcome screen, set a custom 4-letter join code (e.g., 'SMITH'), and enter exact hex color codes so the phone screens and the live TV leaderboard perfectly match your wedding aesthetic.
How much does wedding trivia cost?
My Wedding Trivia offers three tiers: A Forever Free plan for testing the platform with up to 5 players. The DIY Package ($39) which unlocks unlimited players, unlimited questions, and printable QR table cards. And the Done-For-You Package ($99) where our expert team writes all the questions, builds the game, and handles custom photo branding for you.
Why use this instead of Kahoot for a wedding?
Unlike Kahoot which is built for corporate meetings and classrooms, My Wedding Trivia is explicitly designed for elegant events. Kahoot forces a strict player cap (often limiting to 10 or 40 players unless you pay hundreds of dollars for a corporate license), shows corporate branding, and requires PIN codes. We offer unlimited players, custom couple branding, elegant typography, and zero app downloads.
What kind of questions should we ask?
The best wedding trivia games feature a mix of funny, sweet, and surprising questions. Popular categories include 'Who said I love you first?', 'Where was their first date?', 'Who is the better driver?', or 'What is their most-watched TV show?'. Our platform even lets you insert custom photos into the questions to make them visually engaging.
Can we use this for a bridal shower or rehearsal dinner?
Yes! While many couples use it for cocktail hour or the main reception, My Wedding Trivia is incredibly popular as an icebreaker at bridal showers, couples showers, engagement parties, and rehearsal dinners. It instantly gets both sides of the family laughing and interacting.
What equipment do we need at the venue?
You only need two things: (1) A screen for the leaderboard (a TV, projector, or large monitor provided by the venue), and (2) A device to project the leaderboard (like a laptop or tablet connected via HDMI or Apple TV casting). Your guests will use their own smartphones to play.
How long does it take to set up the game?
If you use our DIY plan, you can build a game in under 15 minutes. We provide pre-written trivia template question banks that you can instantly add to your game, or you can write your own from scratch. If you choose our Done-For-You package, setup takes zero minutes — we do it all for you!
