Couples were trying to use Kahoot — a classroom tool built for 4th graders — for their 200-person wedding reception. It capped out at 40 players. It looked like a homework quiz. And it required guests to download an app over the venue's terrible WiFi.

Most couples use Crowd-Controlled Mode — guests play at their own pace during cocktail hour and dinner, with no coordination from the couple. Power users who want the full game-show experience can switch to Live Mode — a hosted game with a real-time leaderboard on the big screen.
