QR table cards are the secret weapon for wedding reception games. Instead of announcing a code over the microphone and hoping guests heard it, you place a beautiful card at each table with a QR code they scan to instantly join the game. Here's how to make them, what to include, and how to make them match your wedding aesthetic.
What Are QR Table Cards?
QR table cards are small printed cards (typically 4x6 or 5x7 inches) placed at each table during your wedding. They contain:
- A scannable QR code that opens the game in the guest's phone browser
- A short join code (like "SMITH") for guests who prefer to type it in
- Simple instructions ("Scan to play!")
- Your wedding branding/colors
When a guest scans the QR code, their phone browser opens directly to the game — no app download, no sign-up, no friction.
Option 1: Use Built-In QR Table Cards (Easiest)

- Match your custom wedding colors
- Include your custom join code
- Generate a unique QR code for your specific game

Just download, print at home or at your local print shop, and cut. Takes about 5 minutes.
Option 2: Design Custom Cards in Canva
If you want full creative control, you can design QR table cards in Canva:
- Generate your QR code: Use a free QR code generator like qr-code-generator.com. Enter your game URL (e.g., myweddingtrivia.com/play/SMITH)
- Open Canva: Create a new design (4x6 inches for table tent, 5x7 for standing card)
- Add your wedding details: Names, date, wedding colors, a decorative border
- Place the QR code: Upload your QR code image and center it prominently
- Add instructions: "Scan to play wedding trivia!" and your backup join code
- Print: Use Canva Print or download as PDF and print at FedEx/Staples
Option 3: Order Professional Cards
For the most polished look, order custom cards from:
- Vistaprint: Upload your design, order in bulk, fast shipping
- Minted: Premium wedding stationery that matches your invitations
- Zazzle: Affordable custom printing with templates
Order at least 2 weeks before the wedding for shipping buffer.
What to Print On: Paper Stock Guide
- Cardstock (110lb): Best for standing tent cards. Sturdy enough to stand on its own
- Matte photo paper: Rich color reproduction, fingerprint-resistant
- Glossy photo paper: Vibrant colors but can be hard to scan under certain lighting (glare)
- Regular printer paper: Works in a pinch but looks less polished

See Pricing & Create Your Game →Design Tips for QR Table Cards
- Make the QR code big. At least 2x2 inches. Tiny QR codes are hard to scan from a distance, especially for older guests
- Use high contrast. Black QR code on a white background works best. Avoid placing QR codes on busy patterns or dark backgrounds
- Add a fallback. Always include a text URL or join code (e.g., "Or visit myweddingtrivia.com and enter code SMITH") for guests who can't scan
- Match your wedding palette. Use your wedding colors for borders, text, and decorative elements — but keep the QR code itself black and white
- Include brief instructions. "Scan with your phone camera to play!" — don't assume everyone knows what QR codes are
- Test before printing. Print one card and scan it from 2 feet away. If it works, you're good
How Many Cards to Print
- One per table: Minimum. Place in the center where everyone can see it
- Two per table: Better. One at each end of a long rectangular table
- One per person: Overkill — but great for bridal showers or small events
- Extra: Print 10% extra for the bar area, lounge, and as backups
Where to Place Table Cards
- ✅ Center of each dining table (next to the centerpiece)
- ✅ At the bar area (for cocktail hour)
- ✅ Lounge seating areas
- ✅ Near the sign-in / guest book table
- ✅ On the presenter screen as a backup (display the QR code on the TV too)
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Printing the QR code too small: This is the #1 mistake. Make it at least 2x2 inches
- Using a colored QR code: Colored QR codes look cool but scan unreliably. Stick with black
- Printing on glossy paper: Glare from venue lighting can prevent scanning
- Not testing at the actual venue: Different lighting conditions affect scanning. Do a test run during your venue walkthrough
- Forgetting the text fallback: Always include the URL and join code for guests who can't scan QR codes
